Last week, our General Manager, Stephen Naleway, and Operations Manager, Alby Pineda, attended the Pink Bows Foundation Stopshow Procedure Training. They earned certificates of attendance and continuing professional development. This training represents a significant step toward strengthening our commitment to crowd safety and responsible event management.

This intensive 8-hour course was delivered by crowd safety experts Steve Allen and Dr. Mark Hamilton. It is the same training now used by major festivals, stadiums, and law enforcement agencies worldwide.

The Houston Tragedy That Sparked a Global Safety Movement

On November 5, 2021, ten lives were lost at the Astroworld Festival in NRG Park due to a catastrophic crowd surge. In memory of 23-year-old Madison Dubiski and the nine other victims, the Pink Bows Foundation created the Showstop Procedure. It is the world’s first standardized, accredited emergency “stop show” protocol.

What the Training Actually Covers

  • Instant recognition of crowd surges, medical crises, structural risks, or security threats
  • Clear, unambiguous stop-show commands that override everything else
  • Radio and hand-signal protocols with production, security, medical, and performers
  • Legal and ethical responsibilities when lives are at immediate risk
  • Post-incident documentation standards

Why This Matters for Greater Houston

By attending the Stopshow Procedure training, Stephen Naleway and Alby Pineda have strengthened our team’s knowledge of global best practices for event risk management. While the certification exam is notoriously challenging, their participation demonstrates:

  • Our commitment to continuous learning and safety
  • Our readiness to act decisively in emergencies
  • Our alignment with industry standards for crowd protection

As Houston prepares for major events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup, these protocols will be essential for protecting lives and maintaining trust in the event industry.

At Houston Tents & Events, we don’t just set up beautiful events – we help create safe ones.
