HOUSTON (Jan. 28, 2025) – In the summer of 2024, the Houston Tents & Events (HTE) joined the producers of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to film a special episode in the Houston area. The episode, featuring HTE’s behind-the-scenes contributions, will air on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. CST on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu.

The series, which first premiered in 2004 and was one of the most popular shows of its kind, recently returned to ABC’s primetime lineup after several years of dormancy. Known for building magnificent homes for needy families across the country, the series made its long-awaited return to the airwaves to once again warm the hearts of viewers on Jan. 2, 2025.

The show’s producers contacted Darren Randle and the HTE team to provide onsite facilities and infrastructure for the production company during the length of the episode’s filming in the Cypress area late last summer. HTE was tasked with providing tents and shelter for all the essential players around the production, including cast and crew members, sponsors and community members who volunteered their time and talents to construct the brand-new home. 

“We did it all, furnishing and outfitting everything from the VIP tents to the breakrooms for volunteers. Of course, we also provided air-conditioning because this is Houston, and cool air was a necessity on site for everyone,” Randle said. 

Nationwide homebuilder Taylor Morrison Homes collaborated with the show’s producers on the construction of the house. The episode – titled “The Elrod Family” – is about a family in Houston who lost their home, grandmother and pet cat in a fire. The show airs locally on KTRK-TV, Houston’s local ABC affiliate, and will be available on Hulu the next day.

Although Randle couldn’t attend the show’s filming, the company’s handiwork can be seen on camera throughout the episode. The trust from the producers spoke volumes to Randle about the expert level of work and care that Houston Tents & Events puts into every project they tackle for clients. With productions of this kind coming to the Houston area more and more, projects like this also prove that Houston Tents & Events can be indispensable to production crews working in the region.

For Randle, this project is precisely why he started Houston Tents & Events nearly five years ago, in the middle of a pandemic, no less.
